Out of surgery a week and it don't look good for shooting the Offshore 10 bore at turkeys in 3 weeks. Any of you have Rotator Cuff shoulder surgery? And what was your turn around time to pick up a gun? Thought to give jOe a holler and have him come up and fill in as caller and gunbearer. Anytime I see his photo, he's got another longbeard in his hand. Anyone ever used a lightweight 16 or 20 for a lefthand go at the bird? Thanks for your comments on RC recovery. Randy

BTW:, I'm in good hands, my wife is an ortho nurse and I bet my best sxs none of her patients have ever been threatened with castration if they didn't stop whining or the loss of the twins if she ever catches their arm out of the sling again. Those staples line up exactly with the outer edge of the shoulder pocket. I don't think the Doc is a shooter.

I don't know about RC surgery but I had open heart a few years back. I pulled the trigger in 8 weeks. Wasn't sure if I would split back open or not BUT I didn't. A sigh of relief. Never looked back. I hope your recovery is rapid and complete BUT don't do it until the Docs say it is ok. You sure don't want to repeat any of this.
My very best to you, Walt

Holy crap!! Looks like they tried the scope and they had to open ya up to fix everything. Both of mine were thru the scope only. First one was a lot of fixing and a LONG time to get back. Many months. Second one (other shoulder) was just some bone spurs and cleanup. Back pretty quickly.

I don't think that you will make the gobble shoot. you in therapy yet? You are going to LOVE that!!

Best on the recovery!

Chris

Randy, no surgery yet for me but a buddy got scoped a couple of years ago and he was off work for 6 mos. His job was/is pretty physical, and he milked the leave of absence, but still a long recovery. One of our nurses got scoped in January, and she was back in six weeks, but in a sling and lots of PT. I'm hoping my RC injury heals on its own, but it's been 8 months and still not right. Good luck with yours. Nice picture!

I've used a 16 and a 20 on turkeys, but not lefty. If your doc (and wife) say it's OK with the left shoulder, just get em in a little closer. Either way, get well Randy.

Randy,
Get well soon. Maybe you can break out a Win M37 in 410 and bring home the gobblers.

Bad news - a torn rotator cuff doesn't heal itself, or at least not in my case. I damaged mine pretty severely a year and a half ago and it continues to hurt as badly sometimes as the day it happened. I've had a lot of busted bones and other kinds of injuries and the thing that's keeping me from having my RC fixed is the rehab and PT. Been there, done that. One physical therapist taught me how to spell it. . . the-rapist!!

From my limited but painful experience, I would say it would not be unreasonable to expect it to take a year for full recovery.
I like the idea of learning to shoot from the other shoulder.

I'd say, if you can drop down and do a fast, honest 20 push-ups, you're good to go! ;-)
