How do you SW guys rate the Savage guns? I'm guessing the early Savages sell at a bit of a discount to the Foxes, and the later Savages sell at a discount to the early ones. I suppose, though, that an argument could be made that the later the gun, the better the steel. TT

Some live in the past, any nice Philly Sterlingworth is worth a K+. Thumb thru Galazan's and see what I mean.

Don't think there's much of a discount, Savage vs Philly. Savage, you'll get modern chamber lengths (at least in all the 12's) if that makes a difference to you.

Prolly depends somewhat on whether your primary goal is shooting or collecting. High condition Philly guns are probably worth more to the collector, but Utica guns give a shooter more modern stock dimensions and chamber lengths. However, some of the more collectible SW's like the Skeet & Upland and the Waterfowl, and the SP Foxes, are Savage guns.

I got a little more info on it and i`m still waiting on pics. It`s chambered for 2 3/4", It is an early Philly model and the serial # is in the 56,000 range. It has the hinge pin frame ( whatever that means ) He think the date on it is 1910 - 1911

If the barrels are sound they should be worth most of the price alone. Add in fore end for another $100.00 plus, stock for the same ans receiver and you get well more than your asking price just by parting out the gun. Solid shooters are selling for 800-1,000.00 around here. More in the right place. If the barrels are sound make the trade and do not look back. Just my two cents worth.

burch, no one mentioned it yet but that's an early Fox "Pin Gun". It would bring well over the $550. if in the condition described. Silvers
