Still trying to get a date on a Sauer double, serial #182593. Ken/Kebco's response did not help. The only #'s are serial #'s. I have an older Sauer in the 16lxxx range, that according to Jeff Stephens' list in DGJ, should be in 1909-10 range. I do not have access to that issue anymore and am guessing this gun is in the teen range. Anyone willing to help? Jeff S., Chief, Jeff G.?

Yes, Mr. Cate should have a lot of new Sauer info as he wrote an article in Journal No. 35(Winter 2007-2008) of the German Gun Collectors publication where he found the Sauer Rosetta Stone(s) record books along w/ a few from Merkel & Kettner in Suhl.

"After 62 years the Rosetta Stones(s) had been found. Each book(numbered 9-35) contains a serial number listing of each long gun made by Sauer. That includes the dates of certain steps in the process of completion of each gun; the initials of the employee(mechanic) who did the work; exported if applicable; caliber; gauge; when it was blued; unusual attributes of certain higher quality guns; and, of course the model."
