The standard terminolgy I've always heard used is 'reinforced frame'.
employed as a means of trying to prevent a frame fracture with minimal weight addition.
Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know who the first was to utilize the practice?

Engraving is more like a Grade 5, but stocks are Grade 4.

I'd say it's a grade 4 Flues. The pin placement can be no other than Flues; the strutting pheasant seems typical of a grade 4. Am I correct the butt stock has been replaced? The comb appears high and straight for a gun of this vintage. If you look at the pistol grip, the bottom line doesn't run from the front of the grip to the top of the heel. I can't imagine Ithaca making such an amatuer a mistake on a gun of this quality.

I can't tell the diff between the 4 and 5 engraving except I thought the 5 had gold...but I'm guessing they are saying it's a 4 because they have confirmed it. Upon enlarging the pics of the sides, the "gold" looks like gold wash or gold plating, etc. as you can see where it's coming off.
Is a turdhound a special breed????

Ran across this one on G/B looks like the same grade as the one at Cabelas, You can see the grade marking (5) in one of the pictures. the stock checkering is a bit different.

Every dog I have known is a turdhound. Put any hungry dog around cow manure or cat scat and see what happens. I use it as a term of affection.
Which reminds me of a story - I inherited my Dad's depression-baby hunting buddy Mr. Page. He always took a crap in the field when we were out walking behind the dogs. Well he had done his thing and we had gone back to hunting. I heard Page holler and I looked over and our co-owned English Pointer Dutch was rolling in crap and toilet paper. Now Dutch rode in a crate in the back of the Suburban. Page spent the whole two hour drive back to Amarillo trying to persuade me that it didn't stink in that truck.
