On a sidelock with the locks off, it is possible to cock the hammers but with a boxlock it wouldn't be that easy. Disassembly would probably be required. Try this: insert the snaps caps and drop the hammers. 1st see how difficult it is to remove the forend. If it is firm, try to slightly breech the double and hopefully with a light you might get a glimpse of the ends of the strikers. If you do take the forend off with the hammers down, the resistance to re-attach will also be more.
Is there a mark on the right extractor where the firing pin may have scraped it?
Also, put tape over the holes w/ the snap caps, hold it vertical and drop the hammers.
