ShootnRelease
This prolly should go on the Cleaning thread you mentioned...But I had a little heart palpitation the other day when I picked up my Belgian SLE for a few min's of mount n shoot drill.
While checking that it was empty, I saw to my horror a nasty little mess in both tubes about 10" from Breech.
About a month ago cabin fever forced me to let a couple of loads off into the woodpile on a damp air day..guess I forgot to clean.
It was definately the start of rust....my bbls are usually shaving mirror bright , & it freaked me out more than a little.
I think unburned powder/ash residue soaked up some moisture & started to go to work.
00000Steel wool on the brush chucked in the drill got it all out...but it doesn't take much damp stuff in a bbl to start it going...as they say "Rust never sleeps"...I could a had a bigger nastier mess if I hadn't spotted it and left it there for a few months or more.
Never tried the steel wool before, but man ,does that shine em up good .
So even two shots in damp weather can give you trouble
cheers

Fran, that's the admonitary warning that should accompany the recent post on EZ cleaning with bore snakes and the like. Bore cleaning doesn't have to be hard if you've got the equipment and the habit, but it's not quite as easy as dusting your etagere. I've never seen that 5/0 wool; is it 4/0? Did you apply a bore solvent to the wool on the brush?

Jack....I dunno how many 00000's...it was the last loose clump of it I had in my junk draw...lets call it 0000.5 :)..anyhow , twas "fine".
I wet a sheet of kitchen paper towel with Channel #9 & pushed it down the bbl till it was packed in the zone & left it for an hour, then pushed her on out & spun the drill a wee bit..& bingo.
Actually I think most of it was just crud/residue...but it was definately starting to rust a little.
After the wool I swabbed vigorously till patches were untainted, & ran the oil mop down em.
Man, I REALLY hate foreign crap in my (usually) spotless bbls .
Spotless bores just make a guy feel good, don't they??
cheers
Franc
