Where are remanufactured (by the firms bearing the name of the original maker) in terms of value? For example Atkin Grant and Lange, is engaged in such remanufacturing guns made by their ancestoral makers. They have several on their website but I don't see any auctions to judge the resale of such pieces.

From what I have seen if the maker re-manufactured the gun the value is not adversely effected. If some other maker, even a major name maker, does the work then the value takes a big hit. I think this is all from the collectors discounting guns not all kept original. As a shooter the quality of work should be more important than if it was done by the makers whose name is on the rib. Just my two cents worth.

A Holland & Holland Royal with barrels by another takes a huge hit. If re-barreled by Hollands at a later date - not that big of a deal. High original condition is best, but this is a close second.

Prices seem to include new barrels and/or stock by the maker and reflect this as a premium. My only caveat is that the barrels are usually shorter than the original to keep balance and weight in line with the original. Otherwise, this is how some have been getting British bests at a fraction of the cost of newly manufactured pieces.

Rocketman,
Where do these fit in your system of evaluation?

I think they are exceptionally good value when compared with a new gun, which is essentially what you are getting.

I have a Current Condition level five (CC5) for "restored" guns. It is about 30% of the "pristine" price. I'm not sure what the "remanufactured" prices are running. Anyone have an example/link? "Remanufactured" may be more extensive than "restored."

Remanufactured are probably worth another look for your system. They are indeed different than a restored shotgun which tends to use the original bits. As I understand the process from what Ken Duglan of Atkin, Grant & Lang as well as others such as Mike Yardley have described, the end result is essentially a sound gun with new parts as needed. The entire gun is usually redone including hardening the original action. But, if a part of the shotgun does not meet standards for modern shooting, it is replaced. I think one article had owners trading in their original guns as part of obtaining newly redone ones. Yardley included remanufactured Grants in his article on best guns for The Field.

Rocketman, William Larkin Moore has a Stephan Grant 16ga on his website "remanufactured" by Atkin Grant and Lang. And Atkin Grant and Lang's website has several.
