Philadelphia marked Sterlingworth - 885xx (1919) - 30" - 12ga
The gun is correct to the serial number production date but has a name over stamped with STERLINGWORTH on the left side of the receiver.

The letters underneath are LINC and the rest of the letters are not determinable except for a dash and a H
Guessing, I would say LINCOLN - H

Any knowledge of what the original stamp might be?
Regards
John

Does the Sterlingworth marking on the left side of the receiver match the one on right side? Can you post a good pic? Silvers

If all capital letters it occurs to me the "C" in LINC could be a "G" and then you have just a misrolled STERLINGWORTH.

Best,

Mike

Mike, by golly you are correct.
... LINGWORTH is 0.580 x 0.050
... STERLINGWORTH is 0.860 x 0.050 (same dimensions compared to 2 other guns)
When I mic'd the length of the LINGWORTH, and compared the letters to the length of STERLINGWORTH - exact match in distance.

The stamping on the other side of the receiver is the same deep stamping on this gun. My others are the normal light roll stamp v the deep stamp on this one

Do want to thank you for your investigative creativity!

John
PS: This Ansley Sterlingworth was a new purchase this week: mirror bores - 98% bluing and 60% case hardening - but with a buggered wrist stock repair and tight as a bunged drum... for $325

Gunut - No, only the matching serial number
Before I bought the gun and saw the over stamp, looked the gun over for any unusual marks: barrel - receiver and forearm frame ... None

You are very welcome. In coin collecting mistrikes are more more valuable than correctly struck coins, everything else being equal.

Best,

Mike

Looks like a roll stamp or fixed stamp which was miss-applied the first time and was struck very heavily the second tome to cover the mistake.
