The Rempt Brothers were builders of high end shotguns and sellers of their's and other's guns. Their firm was in business from the middle 1860s until the start of WW2. They were not liked by the Nazi government.
I would suggest that the engraving on this beautiful gun was either influenced by or done by a Belgian engraver. This style was used in Liege and several of the best engravers left Belgium to immigrate to Italy and Germany. One of the best of these worked for Franchi on his best guns. This engraving reminds me of that period and style. Note the bouquets of roses. It is for this reason that I would hesitate to call it an English style.
Hope this helps.

Glad to see you won that auction. The gap in the rib bothered me a little.

A couple more pics- bag grip much more pronounced and in line with a german gun as opposed to several english looking aspects. The gun does have an anson forend release though instead of the more usual deeley latch, but also has a cheekpiece. Seems to be a odd amalgamation of features + some very nice ( French) walnut- oh yes - its a 16 gauge.

Thank you for the info on the Rempt Bros. John Mann ! - I had never seen any reference to the term anywhere- I guess my next stop is the German Gun Collectors for any information they may have.

J.B.Patton:

GGCA Journals Volume IV, No. 2 page 15, 16 & 18 and Volume IV, No. 3 page 16 are some references for Gebr. Rempt. In Summer 2001(Vol. IV, No.2 page 15 has a 1932 Remo(Gebr. Rempt) Catalogue reprint and states that a reprint can be purchased for $20 from: Armetco, 1012-12th. Avenue, Grafton, WI 53024. But I don't know if it is current info.

Kind Regards,

J. B. Patton: I notice you decided not to keep the gun. Any reason?

JBP
