I called Simmons this morning. They seemed very confused by my request. After talking to 2 different guys and being put on hold 3 times I was told they don't do that.

Any other ideas?

Mark, I would expect that Simmons wouldn't know whether they did it or not. However, they advertise that they install matted ribs on barrels. There must be someone at Simmons who knows what end the shot comes out but I think they keep him locked up somewhere and don't let him talk on the phone.

Eightbore, I think you could be right. I think I will call back every few weeks and see if I can get lucky and talk to the right guy.

MC, you can show me how to do that in Trinidad this summer

The cost of the matted rib installation is on the Simmons website. I assume they actually bought Andy's machine. Don't know for sure.

The Simmons ribs I have seen are matted with v-groves running the length of the rib. I would say the matting ocures when the rib is roll formed.

Bill, I think the "installation of a matted rib" mentioned on Simmons' website would be of little interest if they finished the top in the standard lengthwise grooves. I have to think they are somehow doing the Winchester matting pattern. Someone did post that they had heard a rumor that Simmons was looking at Andy's machine. I guess someone will have to ask for particulars. I, personally, would rather have a solid rib finished smooth on the top than to have one that has the Simmons grooves.

Matting could be done with a machine as Parker, Fox... That is the industrial way. It can be done by an engraver as done for many european artisanal shotguns and nowdays highend guns.

When you call Simmons, ask for Paul Salchow. I don't think they got a machine yet.
