Bamboozler, what treatment did you give to your rib? Is it still Fox original or did you modify the matted surface? Why do so many engravers not engrave or even polish the hinge area behind the forend ahead of the floorplate?

The rib is unmodified Fox original. The hinge area will be polished...this is the problem when you post pics of an unfinished gun---you get critics.

I think that the Fox that J.B.Patton had done for his father has been kind of a benchmark for upgrades. bamboozler's gun meets or excedes this benchmark in my opinion. Very nice work. You should be proud of your gun.

I'm humbled by your kind words Gordon...J.B. Patton's gun provided the inspiration for my project.

That ain't no kevlar stock and I don't think that's an adjustable buttplate. People talk about how you can't recoup your investment in a project like this. I wouldn't think that would matter. The real problem would be arranging to be buried with it and keeping away the grave robbers.

Bamboozler, my question was not a criticism of your gun, which is beautiful, only a comment about an aspect of high grade guns in general. I am in the first stages of a Fox custom, will probably modify the slightly damaged rib matting, and will definitely finish the hinge area. If the gun is lightly engraved, I will probably polish the hinge area. If the gun has nearly full coverage engraving, the hinge area will probably be lightly engraved.

No problem eightbore.

Please post pics of your Fox custom. I'm sure many here would love to see it and maybe offer up some helpful hints, suggestions and comments about it.
