Utah I stand corrected it was always my belief if the barrels didn't weigh in what the stamp says it was considered out of proof?

I believe that it goes back 100+ years. Assembled barrels would be submitted for testing. If they passed, their weight was marked on the flats to insure the maker did not make any changes before final proof.

I do not know Italian proof law. But it would be a quick way to see if the barrels had been messed with in any way since they passed proof.

Bringing this one back to the top. Look at the photo on p. 1, showing the open action. I asked the question before, and it still bothers me. I've seen guns with both square and round crossbolts. However, the one in the photo has what appears to be a square crossbolt paired with a round hole in the rib extension (like for a standard Greener round bolt). How does that work? All the square crossbolts I've seen before mated with square holes in the rib extension.
