I think all of us on here know that rebuilding a SW (or other field grade doubles) will not pay back the investment, let alone make a profit. At least, not immediately.
In fact, some of the best deals I have made on SWs has been those which have been redone and then passed into the chain of commerce. I have a couple that look absolutely beautiful and like brand (re)new, that I bought for about what a good field grade would go for. That seems even more so for Parkers. Jake That's a good point, and begs a question I posed elsewhere (forget where) and got no response. When we hear about the ubiquitous "upgrade" of a gun it seems most always to be a Fox. Does anyone ever "upgrade" anything else, ie Parkers, etc? If so, do they ever admit it, 'cause I never seem to hear about it.

That's because a Fox is "The Finest Gun in the World." Why would would you want to start with the second-finest?  Actually, you name the brand; I'll bet Mr. Hurst has pics of one or more he's engraved.

Actually, you name the brand; I'll bet Mr. Hurst has pics of one or more he's engraved. I bet your right Mike. And, he has two of my SWs back there right now waiting for him to get to the scratchin'. And, I can't wait for a personal Hurst master pieces. However, I have no illusions that in the short term it will be a profitable venture. And, I would not think of doing it for a profit motive. Jake

Saw a 12 ga. 28" SW at the first table in the door of a med. size W. Pa. gunshow last week. 2 minor bbl. dents, worn forend checkering, and a nice butt with almost perfect checkering. Likely original wood from another gun, but the condition factors did not add up. Tight, lever right, maybe 10 pct. case colors. Asking price was $550.00 and it was still there at the end of the day. I'll admit I wondered if I could buy it for $500.00 and run it thru GunDigest for $1950.00 like "Dick or Craig"

I'm still laughin' about that "Dick or Craig" comment. That's a good one. I read through every issue and wonder who the hell "Dick and Craig" are selling those guns to.
I have to think I'd have made it mine for $550. Might have made a fine huntin gun!
