GG,

Welcome to the Board. Suggest you post some pix of the barrel flats to show proofmarks and the water table (of the action) as well.

Unless there is some unobservable flaw with it, this looks to be in lightly used condition, a mid grade gun.

Does it have ejectors (probably) or just extractors? This might make a $200 difference.

The Simsons have many of the qualities of a Merkel (in fact, they may have shared some production facilities and materials at some point) and JP Sauer, but not the name recognition. Few people really know the German guns well enough to spend on them what they should be worth.

IMHO, with extractors, the market and some exposure would probably support a price approaching $1000.

Tim is correct as a few more parameters and pics are in order to guess at the value. I see that it has sideclips, overhanging scears(stangensicherung??) but am curious as to length of pull and length of tubes, which have Krupps steel mark of special gun steel. Model 73?

Kind Regards,

The Simson family had the misfortune of being, Jewish, during WWII. At the end of WWII, the East Germans continued production of the Geco, Simson, Merkel, and some Sauers, in the old Merkel factory. The actual firm of J.P. Sauer had moved to West Germany, but that didn't stop the East Germans from producing Sauers as well. The cosmetics were'nt the best, the sngraving, fit, and checkering wasn't as fine as the older guns were. For the most part, these guns were built like bank vaults. Underlugs, crossbolts, sideclips. I wouldn't worry about chamber pressures, that is, AFTER, a competent smith has checked it out. Old guns, regardless of reputation, should be examined on a caes by case basis.

Good luck with it.

Drever, that's a bargain! 1500 Swedish Kr. = $245 US at today's exchange rate.

Gun looks to be essentially the equivalent of a Merkel 47 (47E if with ejectors). Condition looks very nice. I'd say low teens with extractors, high teens with ejectors--if it's as good as it looks in the photos.

I have one with more and deeper engraving. The date made for mine is 1968 - I paid $1500 last year. It's a very nice and well made gun. Paul
