Stallones,
These barrels were done with Pilkington's. I did mix a solution of ferric chloride with the Pilkington's.
These barrels were rusted, boiled, dry carded, & etched 4 times.
Then they were rusted, etched, wet carded a few times. Then a rust, dry carded, rust, dry carded a few times to get the brown/plum, then wet carded. I almost quit right there. They were a gorgeous, even dark brown with good deep looking pattern. My friend wanted a higher contrast finish, so I crossed my fingers and did a very quick etch and wet card, and this is what I got... No logwood used. This is something I have not investigated.

The mix of colors is a result of the mix of metals. I have never seen a set of barrels with this style of twist. I am doing a set of two iron barrels now, and they are remaining an even color with a good patterns. (and giving me a fit!)

Please post your results. I would love to see them.
I'm a damascus junkie...
