I'm posting a picture of an object that was given to me so that I could photograph it and post a picture.

Take a guess as to what it is and why it is shown here.

Hey its sunny and cold here in Illinois and I'm making soup - time to stir the pot!

Doug, It looks like a Machinist type gauge for something.

It looks like something to check the front and rear lock-up lugs like the Purdey bite. But I don't why it is bent in a sort of arc shape.

Kind Regards,

Im not exactly sure what it is, but I like the case colors. How wide are those two notches? I second the machinist type gauge, but who knows. Maybe it was used for compressing large v springs?

I don't know what it is But, John Gillette of Classic Guns sent me an identical piece many years back as an example of his color casing ..... he also told me it was 4140 steel. Ken

PS ... mine isn't bent.

It's a cross keyed forearm for a Wesson rifle!

Perhaps the Wesson thing was just wishful thinking...

Actually, my guess is that said exhibit is a piece of color cased 4140 that was bent post treatment to demonstrate the lack of brittleness.
