I agree w/ Steven as it is "Acier Comprime" or the like for compressed steel I believe to compete w/ Whitworth.

Steve, my bad eyes. "Compressed Steel" was a Neumann Brothers trade mark. Still possible they built only the barrels and not the complete gun. Will wait to see more.

The Belgian copyright law was very broad. You could actually copyright a color, a pattern, etc. Which I believe happened in their linen industry.

About the hats, I would not mind one either.

I can see Acier Comprime and eagle head. This mark belongs to Joseph Cap - steel maker.

Acier Comprime sign alone do not belong to anybody, it's just a sign, not trade mark.

I cannot see another marks other than the *v previously mentioned. It still shows the "lion over the PV" of the 1924 nitro proofing.
So when do you think it was made.
And in reguards to this cartridge.. Is this a nitro for black round or black or just early smokeless? Any idea where to start the loads? Any data avaible some where?
Once again thank you for your efforts.

We now move into the "guesswork" area. Since PeteM mentioned that the star-over-V inspector worked between 1929 and 1953 and Dixon states that the probable cartridge was discontinued in 1933, my _guess_ is that the rifle was made about 1930.

Dixon mentions that the 10,75x65R Grundig was shown in the 1911 Alfa catalog and that it was introduced in 1908. The picture he includes clearly shows a jacketed bullet that would probably be in the 350-380 grain range, so I would _guess_ that this was always a smokeless powder round.

Unfortunately I have not been able to discover original ballistics, nor a source for loading data.

This is from Qui est Qui "Who is Who", a recent publication.

For CAP

This is a 1909 List of trade marks

CAP

Neumann Freres

So, the gun should not be older than 1900. Each of these of old guns can be a like puzzle. Some times you can be very sure, other times, well you may get close....

The lack of marks on the receiver was not surprising, a little disappointing.

There is a smokeless proof on the barrels. If after 1903 it is a nitro proof. I do not have the proof pressures for rifles during this period. Perhaps some one else can help in that regard.

I have a copy of Belgium Proofs that show the 'rampant lion ovet the PV' as being a 1924 and later nitro proof.

I added a couple of fresh pics of the markings on the barrels that show it a tad better to the link.

PeteM, look here. The 7-th line from top.
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/mallorquina/source/recherchedesmarques.htm

Acier Comprime <eagle head> - one of the J.Cap' signs on barrels. Don't know, when this trademark registered, btw maybe not registered.

Don't know why you posted Clement' trademark, I don't see Acier Comprime over there.
