I wonder why the guy sold it after waiting so long to get it and especially after receiving it as a gift. Sounds like he never really appreciated that Parker in the first place. And if he was a true sportsman he would have given it back to the family he got it from and not sell it to make a profit, taints the story quite a bit I believe and that Parker deserves better. But you have to admit that is one beautiful shotgun and another reason why the name Parker is held in such high esteem when it come to American shotguns. "Mark Twain", isn't that the last call on the lead line before you run aground??? All the best

We shouldn't assume the worst. Maybe the guy who got it died after a sudden blow to the head followed by a long lingering illness that he was slowly recovering from when out of nowhere he was in a car accident that caused him to lose his hands which made him unable to feed hisself and he starved to death. Being a lucky guy, he had a feeling something bad was gonna happen so he sold his guns off beforehand.

Yes I do know "Mark Twain". Does anyone else know why the weight weight used on the sounding line had a concave dished surface on the bottom of it?

We would crushed a bar of soap into the concave to find out what type of surface was down there for anchoring purposes or whether or not we could anchor or had to moor. All the best
