Thank you for the many thoughtful responses.There are probably many processes at work in solder breakdown:differential areation[areas where exposure to oxygen differs producing corrosion],differing alloy compositions in the solder joint itself possibly setting up corrosion in certain phases;chemical attacks[solvents?acids from hands,rain and condensation.There are probably other possible corrosion producing sources.One thing is clear;someone should publish some studies on what if any of our gun care products could cause corrosion of solder joints.
