I think it is a great gun and a great bit of Americana. The receiver is definately shaped as one from 1908 would have been. Probably touch and go if the production card for a 1908-vintage gun still exists of not, and that would just show its original AE-Grade configuration. Might mention shipped to Kautzky. As for the Fox and the birds they are typical American Folk Art, not unlike the famous "Flying Turnips" on Parker Bros. guns. Seems like our American doubles made in New York have much better game birds then those made in Connecticut and Pennsylvania!?! From my observations over the years, it seems that getting your XE-Grade with DE-Grade checkering must have been requested with a bit of regularity.

Dave,

Interesting comments. So that is what that checkering is, DE Grade?

I would like to see a production card on this one, if it exists. I wonder how it was graded when it 1st left the factory, as the engraving came later.

As for American Folk Art, I think you are being kind. I would love to hear the reaction if one the RBL's showed up with that on it.

Pete
