How should these be reported? What is "lurid" about the coverage? A senator gets a mild rebuke from his peers for outrageous behaviour. A person for whatever reasons goes on a killing rampage. Both are top-line news because of common human interest in hypocrisy, demented acts and the sensational.
It was news today, perhaps tomorrow. Two weeks from now, while we're still hearing about the nature and extent of his dysfunctional family, his deprived upbringing, his drug use, his fascination with guns and poetry, how and why multiple people in positions of authority should have and could have seen this coming and helped the poor lad....the coverage WILL be lurid.
