Having shot driven once, but with just one gun and no loader, I can't quite imagine a pair of Darnes either. But I have shot flurry events with my Brit pair, and that works pretty darned well--with a good loader.

I'm with you on the price thing. That's why I was wondering about the price on those. Looks out of line if you check the Blue Book (but then the Blue Book is pretty low on a lot of doubles), but not if you compare to new Darne prices.

I can recall seeing several Darnes in the neighborhood of 3,000 FF when I was there in the 80's, and that's when the rate was about 8 FF to the dollar. Things have changed.

I looked at those Cabelas gun and the price seems far out of line, especially given that one of the guns will need to have a barrel ding repaired.

My R16 ten gauge rebarrelled with choke tubes works wonderfully in the field even when using gaugemate golds to shoot 12 gauge loads. Can't do $20+K for a pair, but I'm on the lookout for a 12 gauge interesting Charlin.

About the engraver Pitiot, it maybe Pierre Petiot MOF 1982.

Yes, in the 80's the R10 was 3000ff. I was student at the belgium school and it was too much money for me at the time. The gun was case colored, no engraving and a plain clear wood. That was the last Darnes built in a bankruptcy atmoshphere. I guess they got a lot of actions ready to go and they finished the guns, chealpy, quickly, in vain. The same gun doesn't look better 25 years after and did not sale for more than a $1000, on the used market.
When Bruchet took the company, he did not make production guns anymore. He improved the mechanic as the esthetic.
From 1900 to 1978 some R11 looks better than some R15. Everybody have seen badly engraved and stocked high grade R and beautiful low grade R.
The good thing, there is still plenty of cheap R low grades from 1970's , and they are about the same price than 25 years ago.
