There is, of course, no correct answer for all. But you know that.
If I buy 90 to 98% guns - in original condition - I can use them as I like without worrying to much about degrading their condition. This assumes I don't do something dumb, like watch one slide off the hood and hit the road as I drive away.
The "art forms" of period-correct refinishing and distressing guns is, sadly, a risk for the collector these days. I've seen it too many times in recent years......like last spring, to be exact. Sellers may be less concerned with whether a gun is original, than with whether it might be argued as original. In general, a few dings and some edge wear are reassuring.
My bottom line: 99% to NIB (really NIB, not what the seller on gunsamerica claims) specimens are too anxiety-provoking these days.
