Mike: I didn't see any pics of the flats. Is yours an XX gun or standard? Beautiful either way. I have an F 16 as well, but I'm jealous because yours appears to have the push-button release, which happens to be one of my favorite little details on Lefevers, and not often seen, at least by me. TT

I have an FE grade Lefever SN 38025 (Ca 1901) with Chain Damascus bbls marked SB&Co. Did they also supply damascus tubes or did this one somehow get a mis-stamp?

Miller: no evidence SB&Co made damascus tubes but they very likely supplied tubes they sourced from Belgium.
This is a 1948 .410 Ideal Grade LC with 'Belgium LLH' on the right barrel over-stamped with 'London Steel.'

Jeff welcome to the forum! Yes, much relief. I have posted this in another thread but when the dogs tear stuff up or cause money to be spent they are my dogs and when they do good or bring in money or there is a dispute over whether they are well enough to hunt they are her dogs.

Doc thanks for the Lefever thread link - very useful and interesting, especially the "London Steel" overstamp of the Belgium makers stampe.

Two Triggers it is a "XX" gun. And that is the push-button release. Thanks!

I have caught a few of your posts since you found that 16 ga F and the 16 EE and I must say you are a lucky man!
I have a G (16 ga Steel) Lefever that I have owned for 20 years and I sold off a H (16ga Twist) a year ago. MISTAKE! 16 guage Lefevers are not encountered very often in my area.
The 16 ga Lefevers are great handling guns and I enjoy hunting with them more than all others. I have a 20ga DS that I don't shoot well (3" drop and too light for me to keep moving).
Enjoy those guns and keep posting the pics of your Quail hunting trips, they're great!
I am going Quail hunting in the AM with a friend that has some areas on the eastern shore of Maryland with my 1 yr old GSP and his Engl Setter. There are no more wild bobwhites in my area and I haven't shot at at one in Maryland for almost 20 years. I will carry the G grade hope that it connects if we find the 3 coveys that my friend has promised. I am so excited I could pee myself!

GSP Willie I also have a G but mine has Damascus barrels. I found it at the Tulsa gun show. It is factory stocked at 1-3/8 x 2-1/4 x 14-1/2. The F is stocked at 1-1/2 x 2-1/8 x 13-1/2 over wood - it has an awful butt extension and pad for a total of 15" LOP. Those two guns are the highest stocked American made guns from that time period I have ever had my hands on. The 16E damascuse at Cabelas on the other hand is stocked 2-1/16DAC by 2-7/8 DAH. Big variance between all those guns made within a few years of each other.

I hope you had good luck on your hunt today. Quail hunting with my own dogs and a good friend is the most fun I can have at my age. Thirty years ago is another story.

The GSPs I have hunted with have all been very useful birddogs, and a couple of them were dazzling. They would all avidly hunt dead and wounded birds which is a real plus.

3 16ga Lefevers in less than a year must be a record!
Those are some high stock dimensions especially the F as it is a early gun.
I have 12 or so Lefevers 1 16ga 1 20ga and the rest 12 ga. I have a 12 ga G 32" steel late gun with 1 7/8" drop at heel wood to 12 1/2" and 1/2"spacer with 1" pad(butt ugly!). Another 1`2ga G straight grip with 2 1/4" drop 14" long with pad included.
I don't leave to go hunting until tomorrow and me and "Gus" my GSP can't wait. Other than doves and yard birds he has not seen a wild bird yet. I hope to get him out west next year. I have had him to a couple of preserves this fall and he is pointing and retreiving well. The preserve cover is thin so when he sees the birds running around on the ground he wants to rush in sometimes. I think a real covey rise will open his eyes.
You realy should have a D M Lefever 16 ga. with Krupp barrels and stocked to 1 1/2 x 2 1/4 x 15 in grade 6 or higher! I'll give you until next week to find one. OK maybe next month but NO LONGER!!
Please take me Quail hunting in Texas. I will buy all the Lone Stars after the hunt and bring you a 12 ga 8E D M Lefever to try out if you can carry it after being so spoiled carrying those light 16 ga guns.

The extractor on the subject F has the two pins, a smaller one above the main pin. The extractor on the G (serial 35,xxx) is as you describe, the regular large pin plus a groove on the rib extension.

I don't think the hammer pin extends through the sideplate.
