I saw a nice Dutreuil SxS with double triggers today in a gun shop. It was in decent shape and priced right. BUT, I had never heard of it and it had 2 1/2" chambers. No idea about chokes, but barrels appeared to be 26" or 27" (I didn't measure). Anyone ever hear of this one? And, is it worth looking into?
Thanks,
Ray

Doesn't ring a bell. You have any idea whether it's Belgian or French? Since it does not carry a well-known name, everything will depend on the gun's grade and condition. If it's a fairly plain 12ga Belgian or French boxlock extractor, no serious issues, it shouldn't get into the 4-figure range, but maybe close. (They have gone up.) Maybe $5-900, if it's as I described. Higher grade, ejectors, high 90's condition, expect to pay more.

Don't assume the barrels have been cut if they don't measure to the nearest inch, the lenghth may be metric. Have the chokes checked with a gauge.

Dutreuil was a dealer in the Champagne area in France (Epernay & Chalon s/ Marne). Thad Scott had a H&H Royal copy with that name on it a couple of years ago.
As often the case, the guy most likely just sold the gun and did not build it. It would be have been built for him in Liege or St Etienne. The proof marks will say which. Anything is possible about the quality but the brand value is basically worthless.
Best regards,
WC

I found 2 Dutreuil around the 1900. Both in Champagne and it could be two different dealers or the same one moving from on place to another.
Dureuil at Vitry le Francois near Reims
E.Dutreuil at Epernay.
You may find on the gun after the name of the gundealer the name of the town.
The name of the dealer is without great importance, what really matter is the maker and the quality of the gun, what could be appreciate with pictures of the gun, punchmarks on the flat of the barrels...

Thanks for the inputs, guys. The name on the underside of the frame had two or three french words after "Dutreuil", but my non-french brain would not absorb them long enough to get out to the car and access to a pencil.
It was a boxlock, I did not check for ejectors. It was a consignment gun with an asking price of $695. From Larry's input, that is probably about right, so no big bargain.
I only had a few minutes, as my wife was waiting in the car with an oncoming appointment. If I get back to that gunshop, The Gunstop in Excelsior, MN (60 miles) anytime soon, I'll check it out in more detail. (If it is still there.)
Thanks,
Ray
