Any deal with Matched Pairs Limited in the UK? They seem to have a nice selection and they have one gun in particular I am interested in. Also, any recommendations as to how I can get a gun inspected by a knowledgeable gunsmith?

Thanks.

At least one UK member provides that service, and does it well, and we may anticipate his counsel. In my opinion, it's the only way to go.

I talked with Dig (a.k.a. smallbore) about them roughly 2 years ago when I was interested in a gun they had. He told me Joe Hall is a great person to deal with.

I did not buy the gun I was looking at. I found something else that was just as good on this side of the pond.

Joe Hall has been at this for some time. I like him personally and think he performs a great service. The guns he has for sale have been good specimens in my experience. However, guns come to Joe from a variety of sources so each would need to be examined. Dig could do this. I believe that John Foster and Graham McKinlay have given guns a vetting as well for customers Stateside. This has been more important to me in buying from the auction houses but at the price range of most of Joe's guns, I wouldn't hesitate to have an expert take a look. I have also found the Purdey and Atkin, Grant & Lang personnel to be very helpful. A friend has gotten similar information from Boss offices. Getting a gun to the US is now complicated enough that I heartily recommend having someone take a look in the UK.

I'd be careful.

He knows more about many of the guns he has (and others on both sides of the Pond have,) is seeking or "knows about through the trade" than you do, and he - like most people - has no reason to be forthcoming with this information if it not in his best interest. Is it true he is a (former) attorney/barrister?

Thus the advice to pay an independent to examine the gun is good.

I was tempted to have him reunite Beesley gun #1 to it's stable mate #2 gun I have. Shortness of cash call a hault to this happy ending.
