I have a nice M 1889 Remington alson that I have shot quite a lot. It has laminated barrels and 2 5/8 chambers as most all did. I shoot 2 3/4x1 low and medium pressure ammo(No WW or Rem) . They are strong and well built.

Also have '89 made in 1905 with the decarbonized (fluid steel) barrels. Leather comb riser on it. Shot it four hears ago at Vintagers Millbrook. Very good for rabbit targets with all that impossible drop. Mine's had 7000psi reloads thru it without violent protest despite having been honed a bit by Mike Orlen. The Klunkermeister (Russ Ruppel) believed they were strong guns.

What do you guys think of Lewis Drake's four '89s?
A steep price for sure - but looks like a lot of condition!

The barrels on the bottom three have been struck enough to show the breech balls proud. I assume they have been reblacked also. They all seem high in price to me but I am just getting into Remingtons.
So many guns, so little time!

I have a 1873 hammer lifter- steel barrels, and a 1889 twist damascus barrel gun. I also shoot 2 3/4" nitro loads in both, but reloads around 6500psi. When useing BP, anywhere from 70 to 90 grs of 3f and 1oz of shot. I think the Remingtons are very under priced. Look at the lock work - just as good as any gun out there. Paul

Gave 300 for mine. After Orlen got thru, it was more of a sixhunnertdollar gun. Drake probably lights his cigars with that sort of small change.

You should be able to get a nice example of grade 1,2 or 3, very shootable for under 1K. Probably not with mcuh case color though. They are all the same except for barrel material. I have a 2 lightweight and a 3. I bought them from members here. I have not seen higher than grade 3 but I am looking.

I just looked at Drakes 1889's. Amazing, how he has the courage to ask 3950.00 for 800.00 guns. The Remingtons are really nice strong guns, but you can find them for 1000 or less IMO.
