The quick fix for all the earth's ills was the banning of lead shot. The trick has always been, find an easy target group without much clout and slap a ban on 'em - the duck hunters filled that bill nicely.
You and I both know, there are things that are dumped and pumped into our earth that makes a handful of lead shot child's play.
...but hey, these major foulers of the earth aren't easy targets and they fight back...and they will end-up killing you and the ducks too!

Asbestos is naturally occuring - Asbestosis. Coal dust is naturally occuring - black lung disease. Radioactive radium is naturally occuring. The Scotch I drink and love is made from all natural ingredients and it gives me a good headache sometimes (I use it for medicinal purposes like a bad day at the office or dealing with my college age sons). Over exposure to sunlight increases the chances of getting skin cancer. Many naurally occuring substances can be harmful in certain situations.

Maybe we should ban the eagles? They are pretty hard on the ducks these days.... My neighbor lady took this picture out the back door.

Lead poisoning of ducks, was a very real problem here in PA, 30yrs. ago, up around Pymatuning. If you shot a duck, and could feel very little meat on the breast, you would find a lead pellet in the gizzard. This area had a large volume of shells fired over it, every year. I agree with banning lead, in a place like that, or a high volume dove field, but I think banning lead for upland, big game, etc. is silly, where the chances of an ingested pellet are very remote.

That would seem to be the logical approach. However, some of the lead restriction proponents want to be more "aggressive" in their approach. And unfortunately, some of those people work for our fish and game departments.

...but of course it would be logical approach for those who shoot pheasants over ducks.
Nobody wants their game spoiled like the duck hunters have had. It'll hit the fan, when the deer hunters feel the heat.
It will be millions instead of a handful of old duck gunners.
They will not be a push-over...they're our best bet!

Deer hunters would have an easier time. Few shots and an easy transition to all copper. I think my inline muzzle loader uses all copper bullets.

So many guns, so little time!

Sorry to not let this topic die chaps but I am an avid supporter of lead shot until an economic, readily available, substitute that performs as good as lead is available.
As I have said many times we have been railroaded into the current situation by so called scientists and conservationists who I feel have flawed science, hidden agendas and are liars.
Here is some food for them to chew on and perhaps divert their attention.
In the UK fly tippers dump rubbish illegally every 30 seconds this cost an estimated £100 -£150 Million per annum that's nearly $300,000,000.
Every year in the UK we discard 20-30,000 batteries, these go into landfill to leak out into the earth and environment toxic chemicals. What must the cost and damage be in the U.S.?

Your point? Could it be that perhaps that you believe the existence of one problem justifies the continued existence of a second?
