I have a 1901 Crass grade 1 1/2 12 ga. Ithaca with damascus barrels. The safety doesn't work with the left barrel. With safety engaged you can still pull the front trigger and fire the gun. The safety does work with the right barrel. I'm assuming since the gun is old and the first barrel has been fired many times more than the second barrel something may be worn out where the safety blocks movement of the trigger.

I'd like to look in the action of the gun just to be sure its not just some dirt or other simple explanation. Is there a certain way or order I should follow to diassemble the action far enough to give it a good cleaning?

Secondly, since it's likely it will need to be repaired, I'd like to send it to someone with skills and experience working on something like this vs. a local guy who mostly works on 870s. Any recommnedations?

Thanks!
