I was just wondering if anyone found any irresistable treasures at the show? I talked my self out of going for two reasons: I don't need any more guns and my right foot didn't want to do that much walking. Not going was also good to me as I made a nice trade for a better air rifle and found 3 bags of #9 shot, at the same pawn shop, for $25 per bag.

I didn't find any treasures, but I came close a couple of times. One table thorougly confused me with a flintlock SxS with recessed breech, next to a pair of Stephen Grant sidelevers, next to a pair of James Woodward bests. So I went home to ponder. I lost their card on the way home which is credited to divine guidance.
Also crossed a dealer off my list of "to be trusteds" after examining an English Best offered at full price. The gun was a composite with barrel and probably trigger guard from one gun, actions or parts thereof from another gun and an unrepaired crack in the stock offered with the oft quoted "I never noticed that before".

I thought the overall number of quality shotguns was way down, excepting modern made stuff. I've been going to the show for well over 20 years and this was the first time nothing really grabbed my attention. There was a fair amount of worn out or refurbished stuff though. Also, the number of exhibitors in the International Sporting Arms section seemed down.

I could have spent a lot of $$$! Did buy a Parker Repro 20G and 16G with double triggers and 14 3/4" LOP. Wanted a real DHE 16 at Steve Barnet but couldn't do $18,500. A friend found a real nice Merkel double rifle with extra 16 G barrel set that went home with him. Bob Jurewicz

Bob, at the Greenwich show, a DH 16 of outrageous originality level and very acceptable condition went for $4500. I steered a friend to it when I determined that I had reached " Parker 16 gauge saturation".

Montana, I believe the pairs were $32,000 each. I don't need a pair and would have had great difficulty deciding between singles of those two guns anyway. The Grant sidelevers are "way cool" in the vernacular of my grandkids. But the arcaded fences of the Woodward are too. Prices were somewhat soft around there, many dealers were obviously prepared to take some off to make some money this year.

On the subject that dealers were ready to deal, in light of the current economic trend, gun dealers that are personally heavily invested in guns ought to be as scared as a Countrywide exec, IMO.

You are so right. When you look at the money markets, stock markets and how fast the Fed is cutting rates smart dealers might well be willing to move inventory right now for some cash. Problem is that many would be buyers do not have the money to buy right now. For those who do have cash there will be some real good deals if you can put motivated seller and buyer with money together.
Most of the recent run up in good double prices may just be coming down a bit in the near future. But often what gets sold first is the junk, well worn, guns with problems and odd stuff. If you are patient the better buys will be along later if you still have money. With luck I might have a few dollars left. If not I might be a seller as well.
