Turkey Dogs!!! A few years back, I'm sure it was Hmls jOe that posted his remarks about his turkey dogs. Even had photos. Don't know why he's not posted on yet. Maybe Lowell has to post here in order to get jOe to respond. Lowell, jump in here and chum jOe in here for a response. We want to see jOe's dogs and his turkey story. RanDy

We got two last Saturday...the guy I took killed a nice hen and I got a young gobbler.
I killed this hen the next morning. I think I've killed about 10 this fall with my Purdey 10 ga. Hammer gun I expect I'll use it or my Scott 10 Hammer gun this spring. I'm shooting a load out of the Lyman manual for the 10...1 & 5/8 oz copper plated #4s. 1300 fps at 8500 psi
Using a dog in the eastern woods is alot different than the Texas hunt.

I've been thinking about getting one of these as a back up gun.

It would make nice "behind the kitchen door gun" Lowell.

I used a 1906 Ithaca double choked Mod and Mod. 1 1/8 oz. of #6 shot.

I got him at 14 ydrs out of a blind after four mornings of calling.

I figured shooting any bird that came to my call was making an improvment in the turkey gene pool.

I have been playing with a double barrel flintlock but have not worked up a turkey load yet.

Good luck

Good nite jOe, you shot the head right off that turkey with your Purdey 10. Must be one of those rare "Becker" bored Purdeys. Thanks for posting. Randy

Homeless Joe

Nice looking Boykin. Lost mine last yr to old age ... loved that dog. Great on doves too. Always wanted to hunt him on winter turkeys but did not get the chance.

Springtime will find me with C grade Fox, original 26" bbls, IC and full ... and ordered that way. Full for the wary birds and IC for self defense from those horny Tom looking for a hen.

I've also thought about selling the NEF and getting a nice full choked Lefever nitro. Should be able to handle some stout turkey loads, and it could serve backup and late season duty for general upland as well.
