My neigbor is trying to trade me an SKB 100 (12) 28" barrels (bought in 1976). The gun is in excellent condition with a few minor handling marks. Pheasants and grouse engraved on receiver. Seems like a very light gun for carrying through the foothills chasing grouse. Also, would I be able to shoot steel shot through this gun? I've never had my hands on another SKB so I don't know anything about their quality. I've been wanting a BSS, but this seems like almost the same gun for 1/3 the money. Any thoughts from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

The trade would be "even up" for a Mossberg 500 Bullpup (not exactly an upland gun) But it is VERY scary if I have to point it at a bad guy!

If the gun is in good condition it is a no-brainer. The SKB is worth two or three times the value of the Mossberg.

Jump on it right away. You might have to get the chokes opened up for grouse, but it is still a very good deal. You should be able to shoot steel shot if you open the full choke to modified.

You will enjoy the SKB. It is highly likely to be F/IM. Mike Orlen of this board can open the chokes if needed. I would do the deal you described in less than 30 seconds.

The SKB 100 is best buy, most-undervalued on the used market, in my opinion.

I'm on the same page as you guys- seems like a no-brainer to trade something that gathers dust for a SxS that will get lots of use. I could tell from handling the SKB that it was made well. Any opinions why the SKB market isn't where it should be? I know they are made in Japan, but Mirikou Brownings sure don't seem to be coming down in price. Thanks for the input.

About the steel - yes, if it has modified/improved chokes. No if it is Modified/full. At least that is my opinion - and steel only 4s or smaller.

That is a screamin' good deal by the way.

I have one in 20ga. Used it exclusively for grouse, quail and pheasant for several years. Great guns. Grab it, the seller does not know it's true value.

I have had a model 100 since 1975 and it is a very good shotgun. I have shot a lot of steel with it with no problems. It is a 26" choked ic and mod.

The BSS is a club next to the SKB. I have a 200E in 12ga. and 20 ga. and they are absolutely the "go to " guns in the safe. Trap, skeet, birds, I don't care it shoots at them all. You really don't need that Bad Guy gun anyway.
