I would like to have the proper screwdrivers to disassemble
and/or assure screw tightness on my 1908/09 Fox A and CE.

Would someone please tell me what sizes I'll need?

Thanks

Thge ugly truth is that to be exactly right you need fitted screwdrivers. The easy approach is to measure the length and width of the various screw slots with a dial caliper and a set of marked thickness/feeler gauges. Go to Brownell's and look at their screwdriver bits and handles. Buy ones that are the correct length or a skosh under and a skosh wider than the slot. Also buy a grindstone sold for these bits - it is chucked up in a drill press of drill held in a vise. Gently thin the bits for a snug fit in the slots.

No offense intended, but if you can't do the above, you maybe should consider not taking it apart. It is oh so easy to burr a screw slot and oh so unsightly. Do you have a vise to hold the gun while working on it?

Even though these firearms were produced in large numbers they all have minor variances, so there is probably no standard size that will fit it perfectly. The best way to go about taking on any gun screw is to never use a "factory" ground blade. Find a good fitting oversized bit and grind it to fit perfectly. The time you spend fitting the turnscrew will be well worth it when you take the screw out without any troubles. Be careful with the calipers too, I have seen a number of "smiths" slip on a screw head and scratch the gun. Those tips are very hard and very sharp!

Fox,

Go to Brownells and order bit#'s 340-1,2,3 &4. For instance, a 340-1 is a blade .340" wide by 0.010" thick. Buy all 4 and one of those will fit perfectly or be close enough to alter easily. Those will handle the underlever screw and main floorplate screw.

Try to determine the width of the slot in your triggerguard screw....most likely a 240 or 270 will do. Then buy the 4 thicknesses (240-1, etc.)The rear tang screw under the triggerguard will be served by one of those.

If you haven't disassembeled a Fox before, I suggest you read "disassembly instructions" on the homepage of the Fox site...
