My Ithaca flues model has a hallowed out stock. what i need to know is if this is a Factory feature, or if someone did this themselves. Its a very nice job, but it makes the gun very barrel heavy. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Can't comment on the factory factor in Jeff's case. However, I just had the occasion to weigh an all-original Flues Field Grade 20ga w/ejectors, 1919 vintage. Just over 6# with 28" barrels; factory marked F/F, and my bore and choke gauge confirmed that it hadn't been messed with. The ejector mechanism must add a few ounces to those. The forend certainly feels on the heavy side, compared to extractor Ithacas.

For what it is worth, I have a pre-war Ithaca Model 37 in 16 ga. with a hollowed-out stock. There is a space more than big enough for a pack of cigarettes. I was told that this was done at the factory to further lighten these early Model 37's. It is a very nice mortising job with no rough edges or indications that a less-than-careful stock person had a go at the stock. It does not seem to detract from the strength of the stock as near as I can tell. This helps to make a 16 g, 26" bbl., IC Ithaca Model 37 a really nice bird gun for the hills of Vermont.

Jeff, I had a Flues 16b a few years back and it had a hollowed out stock which looked like a factory job. Gun was sub 6 lbs with 26" barrels. Randy

My 1915 Flues 20 has a hollowed out butt, 5#14oz w/28" bbls.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

My 1926 20 gauge NID with 28" barrels also has a hollowed out stock that looks to have been done at the factory.
I don't know what the gun weighs.
While it may feel slightly barrel heavy if that's what I concentrate on, the gun still feels wonderfully balanced between my hands when I bring it to my shoulder.

Every Flues I have taken apart has been hollow if it was original. Even the grade 4. Most Lefever Nitros also.
