If the coloring was redone properly, the gold would not have to be removed. If it is refinished and it was done to deceive, the use of an old pad would be a nice touch. The rubber in the pad will age oxidatively, the wood finish would be more likely to age photosensitively, and the metal finish, properly protected/sealed, would age not at all. If collected and stored as an heirloom, this is possible. I surely would not spend that level of coin without proper authentication, though.
Per the thread on best guns and dovetailed barrels, the value of this gun lies in collector desire for authentic OE finish, not in utility to a shooter.
