Steven Michaels here - I had to get a new login as the old one wouldn't work for some reason and I couldn't get a password sent.
The ATF business with destructive devices would only apply to a non-sporting shotgun - most notably the USAS-12 (think a giant M16) or the Streetsweeper (owned one - worst trigger pull ever, among many other faults). It wouldn't apply to a SxS coach or slug gun, plenty of which are imported by other companies.
I called Beretta gallery, and they mentioned that someone else recently called on the gun (I guess that was you PeteM), and that he was going to look into bringing the gun over. He (can't remember his name) mentioned that the 471 isn't exactly a super seller as is - so he figures that Beretta just didn't bother to send over something that wouldn't sell.
Anyone who's seriously interested and hasn't called Beretta Gallery in NY, I'd ask that you get in contact with them and let them know you're interested. I did mention that it was discussed on the forum. If the pricing is around what the other 470's go for I'm willing to commit ahead of it's arrival. I'd love one based on the 471 but why push my luck. I'm still waiting for my 689 Silver Sable.
