The old bit about the oil running into the stock just has to be an urban myth. How the hell much oil do you use on a gun anyway? Besides, who uses oil? Spray stuff dosen't run, at least when applied in any sensible amount and then wiped off as almost all of us do.

Another one I'm about done with is the old saw about how grease on a hingepin somehow attracts dirt... like oil in the same place won't.
