Recently a thread at the Darne USA forum has turned up a couple of FN sidelocks...these guns are visually no different from any number of Belgian sidelocks...the thing that sets these guns apart from anyother Belgian sidelock is the material selection and heat treating techniques that FN utilized in the manufacture of these guns. They may be the epitome of Belgian metallurgical science (up to that point in history).
In my opinion, even though all I can afford is Belgian doubles, English craftsmen produced most of the best guns that could be achieved given the techniques and materials of any point in time.
There was one exception though...The Germans have always been keenly aware of the Brit's lead in the field of sporting arm production, and pushed the quality of their sporting guns in order to attain the levels of workmanship that had become commonplace in England. At some time between the wars, the Germans, in their quest to out do the Brit's, utilized their massive lead in metallurgy. The culmination of British technology and workmanship was married to the top German alloy production, and resulted in the very best the German's had to offer. The company that produced these guns that were so very important to the vanity of the German sportsmen, was Greifelt.
Because of the collective desire of the German sportsmen that resulted in the manufacture of the top end Greifelt sidelocks...I too have subscribed to this wedding of the very best metallurgy to the very best design (English sidelock) and workmanship that could be attained up to that point.
My lifelong desire is to acquire a pre-war (actually between the wars) top end Greifelt sidelock...

They're all starting to look the same to me.
In the racks, or cased on the tables in the dim light of the old Cape Outfitters underground bunker, I couldn't tell a Boss, from a Purdey without my reading glasses.

I want the Noel E. Money Parker Bros. AAH Pigeon Gun. Noel got it circa 1895, then around the turn of the century went off to fight the Boers for Queen V. Noel was a Brigadier on staff duty in The Great War, while younger brother Harold B. Money (De Shootinist Gent'man) made Captain in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. After the War Noel retired to Vancouver Island.
A Husqvarna Model 310 m/E Eckermanns with straight grip and the longest available barrels would also be nice.

Ole' Chiefshotguns is trying to sell one of them Greifelts. Apparently the barrels are minature version of 38cm main guns from KMS Bismarck.  Proly Special-Gewehr-Lauf Stahl Fried. Krupp AG Essen all the way. Perhaps you should get in touch with him.

A very serviceable newly manufactured U.S. made sxs with good fit and finish weighing no more than 7lbs and readily available in local gunshops for $1500. And then I'd win one on a ticket! Might as well dream big?

Purdey 16 gauge made between The Wars, 29" barrels with 2-1/2" chambers, 5lbs 12oz, double triggers, straight grip, 14-1/2 x 1-3/8 x 2 x 3/8 castoff, choked 5 and 20, original but well used condition with orginal oak and leather case with charge card and original Purdey instruction manual.
I like well used guns so I can take them hunting and not have a 4 month depression when I scratch the stock.

I have got one dream gun. The other would be a nice 12 bore Greener or similar bar action hammer gun with 30" bbls, proofed for 1 1/4 oz loads.

I have a few things on my ".... it would be nice to have" list ....... but I've always wanted a 30-06 SxS from a quality manufacturer or custom maker ....... with iron sights, nice wood and some reserved engraving ...... NO gold or "easy issues to fix." I wouldn't mind sling swivels .......

My dream gun:
James Woodward and Sons "The Automatic" patent sidelock hammerless ejector, PoW grip, 12 bore, damascus barrels. Wouldn't mind it with rifled chokes, but that is a stretch ...
