If a guy was looking for a 12g roll crimper in excellent condition, where would he look?

E-bay for the old hand crank models. Ballistic Products for the new ones you put in a drill press.

OK, I searched ebay with "12 crimper" and found 4. Are these for paper or brass?

Paper. For brass shells you just glue in the top card.

The 'antique' tools would have been made to crimp paper hulls, I imagine. I would guess they are OK for plastic.
The drill operated ones will work on plastic. Some sort of vice or holder is required to keep the hull steady while applying the crimp.
Read that water glass can be used to glue the top card into brass hulls.

I got mine from Lyman but I'm not sure they sell them anymore. If they do, they were noticeably cheaper than BP and don't stab you as deep for shipping.

Jim, The Lyman tool is better than the BP model, however I don't think Lyman makes or sells them anymore. I've gotten all my Lyman tools from E-bay. They are hard to come by.

I use an antique roll crimper. It works very well for me on the Win., Rem., or Fed. plastic hulls I roll crimp.

Ebay is great for that type of stuff.
I purchased several old hand crank roll crimpers there in the last year. If you spend a little time looking you can find groups of stuff for sale, instead of just the crimpers. I found several lots of vintage 12ga reloading stuff that included powder and shot measures, funnels, the crimper, wad punches, deprimer blocks and tools, and other antique reloading gear. Way better than buying it one at a time.
I typed in "antique shotgun tools", "vintage 12 gauge", "shotgun crimper"......theres good stuff out there!
