Gaz96M:
In Walt's Snyder's "The Ithaca Gun Company", 4 designates full choke and 2 would be modified. But I have seen the stamps to be in error with little size of modification. I would get a measurement of the chamber lengths. If 2 3/4" chamber lengths are in order, look to Midway for shotshells for vintage guns by Federal at I believe 5k psi. DO NOT shoot steel thru it. Also, see "The Double Gun & Single Shot Journal" Volume 18, Issue 2(Summer 2007) on page 147 for a nice, informative article on Nitro Specials.

Raimey, your advice on shells would be good if the gun in question were a 12ga, but this one's a 16. I'm sure the guys over on the 16ga board would love it if someone would produce 7/8 oz 16ga loads at 5,000 psi in good, reloadable hulls--but I expect the devil's going to be wearing his long johns before that happens.
