I thought that you might cut a thin copper shim and punch a hole for the wood screw and put it between the wood and the forend iron.
Kind Regards,

Is it an ejector gun or extractor? If it is an extractor could the J spring be bent? Mine has a little curve to it. The concave side is toward the receiver and it stands up pretty straight when out of the gun.
Is the wood to metal fit on the forearm tight? Are the screws tight? I am looking at mine (extractor type) and the only thing I can see that could go wrong is an incorrect bend on the J spring or the metal shifted in the wood somehow. Maybe a former owner trying to improve it?
So many guns, so little time!

A KE should be an automatic ejector gun. What about the spring screwed into the forend wood for the lambs tongue in the forend iron: has it be replaced or altered?
Kind Regards,

Thanks everyone for your replies! Here is what I have learned after reading them. (Sorry, SKB I'm not able to post pictures.) Raimey, the forend screws do tighten up. I have not tried the shim idea yet. This may be the real kicker. When I removed the wood (as SKB suggested), I discovered there is no spring beneath the J latch ("lambs tongue")! Could this be the entire problem? With the wood removed, the iron still tries to spring from the barrels. When I removed the ejectors from the barrels, the iron fastened to the barrels tightly. (Ejector hammer applying too pressure on ejector?) bbman3 and Builder, I had wondered about trying to straighten the J hook. Should it be heated any? Would you suggest starting with replacing the J hook spring? Lots of questions but thanks for your patience. Thank you all, again, for your help!!

Tony:
Is there a small screw hole in the wood under the lamb's tongue and is there a wear spot about 3mm in width on the underside of the lamb's tongue? The one I have has the spring and a spot of wear.
Kind Regards,

Unless the loop has come loose from the barrels that Baker J-spring is pretty foolproof?!? If a small piece has broken off the tip of the J-spring that could leave the forearm loose. The only J-spring I can ever recall seeing broken was on a very early The Sterlingworth Co. gun. Thank you...I have wondered for years who developed the J spring...so many makers used it, I had no idea who was there first

Raimey, yes, there is a small hole and the spot of wear where the spring would rest. Any idea where I could find a spring? Thanks.

Numrich would be my 1st guess. But, I'm not completely convinced that it would be your solution. I think it keeps the lamb's tongue from falling back below the forend iron. What does the interface of the kickers & the extractor leg look like? Is either kicker or extractor leg "buggered?

Thanks, I have a Numrich book, I will check it. Both the kickers and the ejector leggs appear smooth and not buggered. However, while checking, I discovered the right ejector works but the left does not.
