Well, I've been played the fool more than once and likely it won't be the last time. I'm not bragging about it, mind you, just being realistic. Grouswoods has explained to me that he was not aware of this condition and I accept his explanation as truth. Still, the seller that used the gun before that sold it to Grousewoods from this bbs was aware of this condition. Shame on him.

I bought a BSS 20ga 26" Sporter (straight stock) off a member here who'd bought it recently from another. All looked as described, about a 90% gun with some marks and blue wear. Well, the first time out it doubles and I mean it really reliably doubles every 5th shot or so. Given the gun's price and the fact it wasn't disclosed (mystery and darkness lurk in single triggers that double, ya know), I thought this was not such a nice thing I was passed along. I could have raised a big enough stink and all and probably humbled the seller into taking it back. However, I know these guns well and have worked on the trigger of at least one in the past. So, I figure what the heck, I'll work on it when I get a chance.

I finally got a-round-tuit and diagnosed it best I could. First I was looking for anything out of the ordinary and I had another gun to compare it to. Nothing obvious at first. Then I looked for tampering from the busy fingers of a tinkerer. There it was! The part I refer to as the "disconnector" that stops the inertia weighted transfer bar from going forward until the next shot had been "polished for smoother operation" on the two contact faces (see arrow in pic). In the process, the angles had been rolled. Although I couldn't get it to slip off, I could see it was likely under recoil as compared to my factory gun.

I ordered the two components from Western Gun Parts in case the damage done would be easier if replaced. But, in an attempt to do a quicky check of my theory, I took a few swats with a diamond needle file on both surfaces and changed their angles.

Today I shot 100 rounds of field loads thru it without a hitch or double! Take THAT! You single trigger doubling demons!

Anyway, now I don't feel like I was taken too far down that primrose path. At least I got back to the start.
