Merry Christmas to all!

A little off topic, but here are a couple of pictures of a rifle in progress. It is another Frank Wesson action by Steve Earle that I have taken some liberties with. Doug Mann has consented to put a handle on it for me, and Mr. Hurst is going to scratch it up all my careful polishing with some of his lovely English scroll.

Best to all!

Glenn

Delicious eye-candy!!,...configuration and execution.
It IS currently an "OT" subject, but single-shots just seem to compliment SxSs so nicely. Maybe in the future they won't really be "OT" on this BBS, a la Double Gun Journal recent expansion.
Any info on steels, treatments, cast or forged frame, methods of construction used by Steve Earle??
I expect that "handle-maker" and "scratcher" will finish it up proud!!

It's amazing what Mr. Glenn can do with a file and a piece of cinder block. I have one of these actions and Mr. Glenn hung the bbl & is bluing for me now. By the by --- Glenn is also slow rust bluing two dbl bbl's for me at the same time. If y'all happen to need a bbl blued, give Glenn a thought --- just ask Doug Mann.
Yeah, gonna get a chance of scratching it up for you --- we'll talk about how much coverage you want later. I'm sending my receiver off to you this week so keep your eye out for it. Ken

Mike, maybe we can get Doug Mann and Glenn to post pictures of their finished Wesson long range rifles --- both guys have a finished killer rifle. How about it y'all ? The one I have that is about finished is chambered in 44-70. Ken

Gentlemens:

Thanks for the kind words. As for being off topic, the rules read:

"Feel free to use this system to discuss your doubles, drillings, combination guns, other fine firearms, and related material."

One could attempt a defence under the "other fine firearms" clause... is there a lawyer in the house?

The frame and most larger components of the Steve Earle action is machined from 8620 bar stock. Other parts are made from the alloy considered most suitable for the application, such as S-7 for the firing pin. It is without question the finest action I have ever worked with.

This particular rifle will be an International Rules Creedmoor rifle, specifically designed for killing paper at 1000 yards. The other Wesson I have posted pictures of is built to NRA Creedmoor rules which allow a 15 pound rifle. International rules limit the weight to 13 pounds. This one is chambered in .45-70, as I am going to experiment with that as a long range cartridge. It may ultimately be lengthened to .45-90 like its big brother.

Here is a picture of the wood Mr. Mann is going to put on it. Please don't tell anyone that a Guild wood guy is working with Juglans Nigra.

That is a beautiful start to a fine rifle! Post a couple of the completed ASSRA rifle you gentlemen worked on.
BUT IMO It'd look much better with a Knox form just like another rifle I know of!

Glenn, I suspect you will use a slightly slimmer profile on the barrel to keep the weight off the front end just a little. Will this be another Green Mt. barrel?

The .45-70 thing is different. What provokes that? And, do you have to worry about Ernie's rules? I guess enough 3fg will get it done, but why this route over the tried and true?

Gotta ask - any progress with my secret weapon? We shoot for score next week.
