Not sure I have ever seen a cocking indicator on an Aubrey or Meriden. Is my memory failing ?

I think that your memory is fine. I have seen many Aubrey and a very few Meridens. I, also, have never seen cocking indicators.
But, we all know that most anything could be ordered if the price was right.
It would be interesting to know what Russ would have said about this. He seemed to think that the Meriden was a tad below an Elsie and a tad above a Crescent in general design and quality.
I seem to remember that he owned a high grade Meriden but do not remember his ever having mentioned cocking indicators.

Russ would have said the Aubreys and Meridens don't have cocking indicators. That "screw looking circle near the breech balls" is a screw that holds the lockplate on.

I'm Holding a Meriden up to the screen, right in front of the lockplate view,, Both alike, screw for screw, pin for pin, no cocking indicators .. Tom is fortunate that I don't remember so very well, I put that gun on my watch list and then forgot to watch it,, Appeears to be a very nice gun..MDC

OOPS !!!!! It seems that I stand corrected. I had assumed that the man knew he had indicators and pointed out what they could be. Not having seen but a few over the years,I did what so many have done in the past. ASS U ME D. Best, John

Tom, Meriden did indeed use Krupp bbls, and yours should be stamped K28 on the water table, above the serial number. On the opposite side it should have the grade (55, 58?) I never heard of anyone but Remington stamping pellet counts on their guns, but anything is possible? I never saw one of these with cocking indicators either? Bret, When did Meriden start offering Krupp barrels? Was it ever in a Sears catalog or was this a special order item?  Thanks, Pete

Pete: I'm still confused about the Meriden Fire Arms Co. made A.J. Aubrey and Meriden (and a bunch more trade name) guns vs. the Meriden Fire Arms Co. high grade guns which are shown in the repro catalog offered by cornellpubs (which probably is misdated.) ALL of the later guns were offered with Krupps barrels in that catalog. I've never seen Krupps offered in any Sears Roebuck & Co. catalog, but have not yet found a Sears catalog toward the end of the Meriden era in the mid 19teens.

Gentlemen:
Look in DGJ Volume sixteen, Issue 2, summer 2005 Page 139. This is my gun exactly! It also mounts the grip cap pictured on page 138. Looking down on the action the serial number is 55302 and immediately above the serial number is marked K28. On the other side is marked 35.
