I just acquired a very nice Meriden 12 ga. with ejectors and some engraving on the sides of the action. The serial number is 55063. The gun has engraved on the rib Patent 1907. The barrels are marked Flussstahl Krupp Essen. The gun is in very nice condition and I believe it to be a 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge but I intend to shoot 2 1/2 inch shells in the old girl....just to be safe. Can anyone shed any information regarding date of manufacture and whether the gun is indeed chambered for 2 3/4 inch ammo. Finally, any info on Meriden Firearms Company and what models produced, etc.

Krupp steel was not offered on the A.J. Aubrey/Meriden guns so you clearly have one of the high grade Meriden Gun Co. guns.
Could you post ultra close-up pics of the lockplates and receiver/watertable? or e-mail them to me by jpg attachment at revdoc2@cox.net and I'll post them and thanks!

I would say the barrels were after market but for the Patent 1907 on the ribs. Truly a unique gun. They never mention Krupp in as an option for Aubrey or Meriden. At least from the Sears Catalogs that have been reported to date.

Just yesterday we thought we had found a lead on who was supplying barrels, now, we are still learning. We have only collected a very numbers at this point, less than 50. So it is not yet possible to establish dates.

Gentlemen:
Merry christmas and thanks for your responses. On Christmas day we will be taking family photos. If successful I will post for your study. I will try and get a few of the Meriden in question especially the sideplates. Further, info follows on the sideplates...engraving is identical on each side. includes a marsh scene with bull rushes, a small duck and cirilcues probably are meant to be clouds. The gun appears to also have cocking indicators much like a lefever. There is also a seven petal flower engraved on each side of the action forward of the sideplates. the trigger guard has two simple designs much like a religious sybol of a fish. The receiver flats/water table has the gun serial number and reflects the number of pellets that the gun put on target when you add 3 to the numbers....making the 28 inch gun choked modified and full. The stock seems to be better than basic wood and has a pistol grip with cap with a basic flower design. The buttplate is unremarkable and has no markings.

Tom, Meriden did indeed use Krupp bbls, and yours should be stamped K28 on the water table, above the serial number. On the opposite side it should have the grade (55, 58?) I never heard of anyone but Remington stamping pellet counts on their guns, but anything is possible? I never saw one of these with cocking indicators either?

Please go to Gunbroker auction # 85973661.....although the auction is closed....this is the gun. You can clearly see the sideplates in the photos. You will note what I believe are cocking indicators on the sideplates....in the exact same position as on Aubrey shotguns. I think that this is a Meriden offered for sale other than thru Sears. I think It is a mid-range gun with Auto ejectors. Recently I saw a Diamond grade gun and bid on it but the auction when thru the roof rapidly. Again, your views appreciated! Merry Christmas.

I don't see any cocking indicators? Do you have the gun in hand now?

The indicators are the screw looking circle near the breech balls.
Perhaps you are used to seeing the ones that stick up from the top of the action. Or perhaps the crystal "windows".
These indicators turn counter clockwise as the gun is cocked and return when it is fired.
Very unusual gun and probably very rare. Seems to be a steal in price if it is at all sound.
