Just arrived back in London (jetlagged)following a trip to the Charlton Hall auction in south Carolina.

I met some great people, all of whom were polite enough not to fall asleep during my hour-long prattle about the minutae of British shotgun development. By the time we got to 1880 everyone was in need of a drink so the rest will have to wait until next year.

Just wanted to record a warm 'thank you' to all those who turned up to have a chat, a beer or a coffee, to look at the guns and even buy some.

The welcome I received from the locals will take some beating - people were without fail charming, enthusiastic and fun to be around. I even got to eat grits!

Off to Holt's this evening. No rest for the wicked....

Dig, really envy both your trips, past and coming. Way to go!

Dig, Wish I had known you were going to be in SC, I would have made the trip to see you in person. I am still using the Gunstock oil and Red Oil that i got from you last year and I love the effect so much that I am taking down a fairly new gun with a nice piece of Turkish just to stain it with the red oil.

Thank you again for your help and advice.

I'd like to say a big thank you to Dig for his gracious help in evaluating some shotguns on the lower end of the scale. He pointed me to a couple of really good guns. Some went high from what I was comfortable with, but one came home with me. We'll see how it shoots and holds up after my shells come in from RST. (Shipping was pretty low. I was pleased with that.)

I only wish I could have stayed for more of his talk. (When your pregnant wife says she's hungry, I've found it's best to oblige her immediately.)

I was pleased with the breadth of the auction. There were things across the whole price spectrum of shotguns. I'm planning on attending next year.

Again, thanks to Dig for his role in bringing these great guns to the U.S.

Dig,
Sorry I couldn't make it. Will you be able to make the Las Vegas show in January this year? Glad you had a great trip and you can have my helping of grits!

Hi Cary, saw shrimp and grits being eaten with great gusto on TV the other day. Would love to try them. I'll share, don't worry. :-)

Dig:

I may have required a refill upon the hour mark, but if it had been left to me, you would have needed more than 1 long bud for the additional lecture period. Actually, I took notes and I may get you to review for corrections. I really didn't notice that an hour had passed. I also appreciate your taking a gander at my Coggy double and I noted your questions to Mr. Amos(?) on the MOI machine as well has this laser cast measuring device. Return any time for an additional helping of grits.

Kind Regards,

Raimey

JayCee: The only bad side effect of eating shrimp and grits is you find yourself hunting down people named Sherman; confiscating matches, lighters or any other incendiary devices. We'll make Reb of you yet!
