I have not been on this site for a few years, and it is good to be back on. I have a question regarding an American Gun Co double barrel shotgun with double hammers and triggers. Serial number is 314146. I am trying to find out when it was manufactured, what kinds of loads can be fired out of it today and approximate value (gun is not in great shape). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those guns were made by Crescent Firearms, You won't find many records, but it was made between 1890 and 1929.. If it's "not in gret shape" I would forget about shooting it.. In shootable condition, they should be kept under 8000 PSI chamber pressure.. You don't mention gauge, but if a 12 bore, probably worth less than $150.. The 28s and .410 bores go quite high.. MDC

Does that rule out today's loads? The gun is rusty, but most of it is surface, but appears to be tight. Where would you suggest finding the appropriate loads to shoot?
