Depends. If the top photo is a pic of an SW in original condition and it was turned into the bottom pic then I must reluctantly agree. If, on the other hand, it was a rather tired but sound old SW turned into the bottom then no. The gun is and will be a work of art. Best, Jake

Just to keep this thread on track...the top gun being referred to is an original SW that remains in original condition. It is a good pic of a beautiful SW that I tried to show the difference between a SW and a graded gun at the leading edge of the forend iron. The basis for my project gun was not that gun.

If you would like to discuss the merits of originality vs. upgrading please start a new thread, thank you.

That is the most beautiful sxs I've ever seen - Thanks you.
I didn;t even know there were folks out there that did stuff like that still. Pardon me for asking, but can you ballpark me a figure should I ever want to do that? That is unbelievable.

Thank you and others for your kind words. The cost for this project may be less than what you may think. Each of the major craftsmen/artisans I have chosen for this project, Mark Beasland, Toby Leeds and Bob Strosin are providing terrific value for the quality of work they do.

While taking on a project such as this may not be for everyone, it sure has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience for me. So much so, that I am beginning to formulate plans for another project involving a 12-ga. Parker VHE.

Bamboozler,

I am in the middle of the same project on a 16-ga sterlingworth. I have been doing all of the metal prep work on my own so it is taking a bit longer than I had hoped but I will get there soon and turn it over to the experts for the finishing work (new stock and engraving). I'd love to compare notes some time. As to the cost of these projects I think they are well worth it to have as near to a bespoke gun as possible without spending 25K. I am looking forward to the finished pictures. I am sure it will be spectacular.

Absolutely stunning! I love the engraving. I have a 16 gauge Strelingworth with 30" bbls that I might have upgraded, but also have a CSMC Fox with engraved grouse that I really like. I can't wait to see your finished gun.
