I'm with RMC on the Irish Setter boots. I got a pair two years and MANY miles ago from LL Beans (on sale, of course...). They are light, warm, comfortable, and have excellent traction without bulky "tank treads"--they have medium lugs of a soft, "sticky" Vibram. And, important to an old cheapskate, they can be resoled. These are 8" boots, 11EE, brown fabric and brown leather, black soles.

That said, the exact model isn't, as I understand it, available in CA since the leather parts are kangaroo leather, apparently a no-no in loony CA. Bought mine when I lived in NY. (Does this mean that the first game warden I meet is going to ask me to hand over my boots? Are 'roos actually endangered? Are they somehow "nicer" than cows? Is it better to make everything out of oil and kill the planet, but never utilize the parts of an animal that can't be et? I'm not getting it....OK, end of rant).
