I am a huge fan of AI. When you get into it really deeply it can be an enormous help.
Take an intelligence analyst who has to report on say Mali and the civil/Islamic war there - and has to read everything and analyze everything. You can ask,
-- "name the provinces; the governors, their tribal affiliations."
-- "What is the current relationship between JNIM, ISIS, AQIM and the Tuareg Nationalists?"
-- "Is JNIM actually Fulani nationalist aspirations hiding under Islamic fundamentalism?" Etc.
You can get a very complete rundown of the daily reporting and press.
Or you are an Economist working at IMF on a complex economic model for China and you start by needing cites and wind up getting summaries of alternative viewpoints.
Or you are repairing a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and there is a carburetor screw you are not familiar with. . .etc...etc.
So it appears that A.I. may help a pompous bloviator become an even bigger gasbag... but it won't make him any smarter... A 2001 Jeep Cherokee was never made with a carburetor. They had multi-port fuel injected engines.
In the same vein, A.I. isn't going to improve the knowledge and abilities of a student who uses it to plagiarize an assignment or term paper.
In short, you can give an ape a hammer, but that isn't going to make him a carpenter.
